Celebrate Halloween with a hands-on sewing class at The Sewing Hive in Columbus, Ohio! This family-friendly Halloween craft event offers two beginner-friendly sewing tracks for kids and adults, taught by our experienced sewing instructors. We'll reserve classrooms for adults, and some for kids and teens.
In The Adult Sewing Class Rooms: Peasant-Style Witch Dress with Julie:
The "Peasant Dress" gets a Halloween makeover at the Sewing Hive this year! You will start and finish this fun, simple dress that works for every costume from a witch to a princess, learning to sew raglan sleeves and elastic casings. This dress is wildly flexible, with 3 sleeve options and 4 skirt lengths (you can even turn it into a top instead of a dress!).
Sizes from 6 months to adult 3X are available; please specify the pattern size you need at the time of purchase.
Materials:
*Yardage varies by size and style choices, but children will need approximately 3 yards of fabric, and adults will need 4-5 yards for the long-sleeve, maxi-length dress pictured here. Appropriate fabrics include quilting cottons, non-stretchy light- to medium-weight costume and garment fabrics. Questions about suitable fabrics or how much you need? *3 yards 1/4" wide elastic
*One 3-yard package 1/2" wide bias tape (for bell sleeve option)*Thread to match your fabric
*Basic sewing kit (pins, measuring tape, extra sewing machine needles, chalk/fabric marking pen, scissors for paper and fabric)
*Your printed and assembled pattern (PDF will be sent to you at least 3 days in advance of class)
Bring your sewing machine or use one of ours.
Skill level: Confident beginner - you should be able to thread your machine and sew straight seams without assistance.

In the Kids Sewing Classrooms: Quilted Witch Hat with Hannah & Cauldron Bag with Priscilla:
Kids will sew two fun Halloween projects in one session: a quilted witch hat with instructor Hannah and a cauldron bag with instructor Priscilla. Designed for young, confident beginner sewists.
This event requires knowledge of how to set up threads, sew a straight line, and do mild troubleshooting independently. Take our Intro to Sewing class first to get ready!
Adult and kids’ sewing are offered as separate packages. Spots are limited due to studio space, so we recommend registering early.
