Sew the Ilford Shirt Jacket

Over the course of two sessions, students will sew an oversized button-up shirt using a woven fabric and Friday Pattern Company’s Ilford Jacket pattern.
SKILLS YOU WILL GAIN:
Students will learn to sew the features of the standard collared, button-front shirt. This pattern is super versatile. It can be made into many different looks, making it a great addition to your pattern collection. It’s also a good entry point into the world of shirt-making as it features an easy-to-sew collar, button placket, and straight hem.
BRING TO CLASS:
Ilford jacket from Friday Pattern Company. The pattern comes in a tissue paper envelope and an instructional booklet. It also comes in PDF format (printed-at-home patterns must be assembled and ready to use, or bring an AO printed on full sheets)
Fabric required for the size that matches your measurements (check the pattern size chart). We’ll be making the shirt from medium-weight linen blend, cotton flannel, or shirting-woven fabric.
And:
Your sewing machine or rent one of ours
all-purpose thread
five buttons that are 1.5” or smaller
seam ripper
straight pins
scissors (and rotary cutter optional)
fabric marking pen or chalk
1-yard lightweight woven interfacings, such as Pellon’s SF 101.
Interfacings require pre-shrinking, just like garment fabrics do. Be sure to pre-shrink yours or get it online at Fashion Sewing Supply, where they’ve already done that for you!
This course is a great next step for students who have completed the Stitch, Style, Create series and want to advance into garment sewing. The non-gendered pattern is sized for a bust/chest 32” – 60”. If your measurements fall outside of this size range, don't hesitate to contact the studio before registering for the class.
Sessions: Two 3-hour sessions,
For Flex-Schedule group or Flex-Schedule private options, you and the instructor will decide on the dates and times.
Group classes without listed dates require a minimum of 2 students to run. Your instructor will email everyone to coordinate dates and times that work for everyone. You may upgrade to a private class if you like.
Pre-scheduled dates and Flex-Schedule group classes are up to 4 students at $120 each.
Flex-Schedule Private classes are $240
