Buying clothing at plus size can be an exercise in frustration - things are drafted for proportions that don't match ours, everything in the catalog feels like a shapeless bag meant to hide our bodies, and so many designers don't understand that just because we get wider, we don't always get taller!
The solution? Learning to sew well-fitting clothing for our unique bodies! The plus size pattern market is growing and no one does it better than Jenny Rushmore of Cashmerette Patterns. Jenny's book Ahead of the Curve is a gold mine of projects and fitting information and by working through it together, we will learn to fit, alter and create a wardrobe of 5 immediately-wearable pieces (2 tops, a pair of pants and 2 dresses). Each project will feature a fitting adjustment and a creative hack you can choose to incorporate into your garment, demonstrated by that project's instructor.
This class is PERFECT for those who need accountability and a bit of extra support to get things finished, in a body-positive community of plus size babes all working together to level up their sewing and fitting skills with a balance of woven and knit garments, each showcasing new techniques you can add to your sewing toolbox. You have 2 months to complete each garment so no massive time commitments or 3 AM sewing marathons are required, and even the busiest of us can find 2 hours a month of me-time!
The best part? At the end it's PARTY TIME!
December's meeting will be a cocktail party meant to show off your creativity and hard work with snacks, treats, music, and sparkling cider to celebrate completing the book - as well as a sneak peek of 2028's book club theme!
Minimum 3 students, maximum 8 students. Ages 18+ (16+ with participating adult)
$360 for the year ($30 per month!)
The patterns range from US size 12 to US size 32.
One Thursday night per month, 6-8 PM beginning January 2027 and concluding December 2027
