Julie Burnsides Diaz

 
Julie Burnsides Diaz has been creating costumes for over 20 years, ranging from cosplay and media recreations to historical clothing of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. She earned her Master's from FIT in Fashion History. She began her career in the museum field, dressing, photographing, and documenting over 1000 costume objects in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She later moved on to become a professional textile conservator with a private firm working on high-end designer clothing for elite clients. In 2015, she struck out on her own with the founding of Snapdragon Designs, where she creates costumes, corsets, and historically-inspired clothing for brides, cosplayers, and re-enactors. Julie is the winner of the Costume Society of America's 2016 Designer Showcase, and her work has appeared in the Star Wars Insider and Faerie Magazine. She lives in Columbus with her husband, two children, and rescued pets.

Learn to Sew a Classic Dore Corset.
In this class you will learn how to understand a basic corset pattern, sew in bone tape, inset boning and busks, as well as applying grommets.

In our Dore Corset class, you'll learn the timeless art of corsetry, focusing on the classic Dore style known for its elegant structure and beautiful silhouette. This hands-on class guides you through every step, from understanding pattern layouts to precise cutting and sewing techniques. You'll master skills like boning insertion, lining, and lacing to create a functional, supportive corset that fits perfectly.

Please bring:
2 yards of medium-weight woven fabric,
1.5 yards of coutil,
2 yards of double-fold extra-wide bias binding,
15 yards of spiral boning,
10 yards of 1/2” bone casing,
1/4” bone tips,
12” busk,
4-5 yards of corset lacing,
30T00 grommets,
all-purpose thread,
your sewing machine and your sewing tools.
