Susan Sanford
Susan has been running her sewing business Sew Darn Simple (https://www.etsy.com/shop/SewDarnSimple) since 2005.
Originally doing local arts and craft shows, she opened an Etsy shop in 2008. She is recently retired from a career in IT.
Susan began sewing with fabric scraps from her mom and a needle and thread around the age of 6 or 7 to make new clothing items for her Barbie dolls. After several years in 4H, she continued to sew for fun until heading off to Ohio University for four years.
With her first professional job, she started making some of her own clothing and with the purchase of her first house she started making window treatments and other home décor items. Over the years, she did work for a couple of interior decorators.
Currently, she enjoys making purses, pouches and other ‘useful’ items with the large fabric collection she has acquired.
Her classes are:
Double Zipper Wallet for Beginners
This small size pouch features two separate zipper sections and a hook for attaching to your belt loop, purse, car keys, etc. The outside pocket is great for change, a house key or your ID. The larger inside pocket will hold your key fob, credit cards, money, lipstick, or other small items.
This pattern was designed by Susan (Instructor) and has been a best-seller at craft shows and online for many years.
This class will involve ironing and sewing only; the kit mentioned below will have all pieces pre-cut.
Bring your sewing machine and zipper foot along.
DIMENSIONS: Approximately 5” wide x 3.5” tall
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: beginner

The pattern and kit will need to be purchased separately for $18. Additional kits without the pattern may be purchased for $12 once the first pattern/kit is purchased.
The class will be a single 2-hour session.
Class or group (2-4): $50. We will hold the class once two students have registered, so please ask a friend to sign up as well!
You can order a Flex-Schedule Class if there aren’t any dates listed that work for you for a group or private lesson. Your instructor will contact you once the order is placed to coordinate a date and time that works for all.
Private class with just you and the instructor: $85
We will contact you once you place the order to begin coordinating dates and times for everyone to attend.

Open Wide 2.0 Zippered Pouch
The Open Wide pouch is a ByAnnie pattern. The pattern has variations for three sizes and is a sturdy bag. It features a large purse-size zipper for easy opening, and inside, there are mesh pockets on each side. The bag body is quilted to give it structure and finished with a coordinating binding.
We will be making the Medium size in class 6.5” H x 10.5” W x 5” D
Please note, this is a MEASURE AND CUT PATTERN, meaning all pattern pieces are cut using a cutting mat, rotary cutter, and ruler. NO TEMPLATES are provided to make this pouch.
You’ll learn to use foam for structure, zippers, binding, fold-over elastic, and mesh.
You can purchase your materials as listed on the pattern. If you prefer, you can purchase a kit from us, which will come with your fabrics precut and ready for sewing. We have a variety of prints available for this kit – please review the photos for options.
If you provide your own materials, you must have everything cut out prior to the first class, or if you need assistance cutting, purchase the additional hour from the selection.

Cumbria Tote Bag
Create your own beautiful CUMBRIA TOTE BAG, which features narrow handles, a magnetic closure, a unique interior zipped divider, an interior zipper pocket, and an interior slip pocket.
The pattern features two sizes, and we will be making the small size in class:

The pattern is available as a PDF from Sotak Handmade Shop on Etsy for immediate download. Please purchase the Cumbria Totebag pattern and print it to bring to class. If you are unable to print (we know that’s possible), just provide your Etsy receipt in class, and we will provide a copy.
Please note: You can purchase your materials as listed in the pattern (fusible fleece is not specified for the small bag, but I recommend using it, so purchase the same amount as for the larger bag). If you prefer, you can purchase a $45 kit from us that includes your fabrics precut, interfacing, zippers, and a magnetic snap, all ready for sewing. Materials will be selected by the instructor, but she’s said to have pretty good taste!
You may also add an extra cross-body strap for $12 includes 2 yds of 1” wide strap webbing, 2 hooks, 2 d-rings or rectangular rings, and a slider, all in silver finish.
