Stitch-Style-Create 2: Beginner Level Clothes

from $300.00

Learn to sew clothing! This five-week Beginner Level Clothing Course focuses on clothing construction; new sewists can jump into this series to gain lasting clothes-making skills.
You’ll learn to shop for the correct garment fabric and notions, get the right fit, and learn how to construct a top and a bottom garment.

Using the Ilford Shirt Jacket Pattern by Friday Pattern Company, you’ll make the short version of the shirt jacket with a collar, buttonholes, and a button-front placket.

Choose a skirt with an invisible zipper and a faced waistband using the Fiore Skirt Pattern by Closet Core Patterns
or men’s pants with the Rambler Pants Pattern by Friday Pattern Company,
or women’s pants with the Chanterelle Pants Pattern by Sew Liberated.
You can purchase online, directly from the companies for a PDF, or buy a physical paper pattern at The Sewing Hive.

This course consists of five weekly sessions.
Class 1: At the studio, we’ll take your measurements and determine how much fabric and what type you’ll need for the projects. Then, we’ll prep the pattern pieces for any fitting edits. For the last hour of the class, we’ll shop for the right garment fabrics at a fabric store.

Bring your patterns and scissors to cut the Ilford shirt pattern you purchased, as well as the women’s Chanterelle or men’s Rambler pant pattern.

Before class 2: Launder your fabrics.

In classes 2-5, you’ll learn all about getting the right fit, cutting, and constructing two basic garments.

Bring a sewing machine (or rent one), fabric scissors, pins, tailor’s chalk or fabric pen, seam ripper, and a tape measure each week. Your instructor will email you the supply list of pattern links, materials, and preparation instructions for the projects you’ll be making. Bring your prewashed fabrics, sewing machine, and sewing tool kit.

*BONUS! Because we’re serious about practicing making perfect, you get three complimentary admissions to Friday Night Sewing Meetups! You’ll get three tickets for free admission to use within the year of your registration for the course.
