Stitch-Style-Create- 5 week Sewing Series

This Series includes: 15 hours of classroom lecture and sewing, hands-on projects, a binder of patterns with detailed instructions, fabric/tool resources, and tips on how to confidently create your own clothing.

Classes meet weekly (5 weeks) for three hours, excluding Holidays.

  • Body measuring for selecting the right fabric quantity

  • Hemming techniques

  • Beginning level seam finishing

  • Making buttonholes

  • Altering a pattern length

  • Choosing and preparing various fabric types

Weekly Supply List

Your sewing machine and sewing tools: scissors, pins, rulers, markers, etc. Be sure you machine is in working order. We have a few machines that you can rent for $10/session.

Week 1: Pillowcase Project

1 yard of medium weight non-stretch cotton for pillowcase and a spool of all-purpose thread.

Week 2: Drawstring Bag Project

2 fat quarters of coordinating quilting cotton for the exterior

1 fat quarter of quilting cotton for the interior

Matching all-purpose thread

Week 3: Zipper Bag Project

1/2 yard canvas weight fabric for exterior

1/2 yard medium weight cotton for interior

1 yard fusible fleece

12" standard zipper and 12" Invisible zipper

zipper tassel (optional)

Week 4: PJ Pants Project

Pre-laundered medium weight cotton, flannel or cotton-blend stretch jersey:

For 44” wide fabric, 3 yards for sizes xxs-xl or 3 ¼ y for xxl-xxxl

For 60” wide fabric, 1 ⅔ yards for sizes xxs-s or 2 ⅔ y for m or 3 y for l-xl or 3 ¼ y for xxxl

Matching all-purpose thread

½” wide cotton twill drawstring + ¾ y extra

1 ½ yards tracing pattern paper

Week 5: Using Commercial and PDF Patterns Discussion
