Over the course of two sessions, students will sew an oversized button-up shirt using a woven fabric and Friday Pattern Company’s Ilford Jacket pattern.

SKILLS YOU WILL GAIN:
Students will learn to sew the features of the standard collared, button-front shirt. This pattern is super versatile. It can be made into many different looks, making it a great addition to your pattern collection. It’s also a good entry point into the world of shirt-making as it features an easy-to-sew collar, button placket and straight hem.

BRING TO CLASS:
Ilford jacket from Friday Pattern Company ( contact us if you want your pattern printed in full sheets versus 8X11/taped. We will direct you to a local printer.
Fabric required for the size matching your measurements (check pattern size chart). We’ll be making the shirt with cotton woven shirting fabric. Be sure the bolt label says, “Shirting.”
Your sewing machine. Must be capable of zigzag stitch
all-purpose thread
buttons (1.5” or smaller. 5-12 buttons depending on the size of the button. )
seam ripper
straight pins
scissors (and rotary cutter optional)

fabric marking pen or chalk
1-yard lightweight knit interfacings such as Pellon Easy Knit Tricot or Pellon Sheer knit. Interfacings require pre-shrinking, just like garment fabrics do. Be sure to pre-shrink yours or get it online at Fashion Sewing Supply, where they’ve already done that for you!

This course is a great next step for students who have completed their Stitch, Style, Create series and want to move further into garment sewing. The non-gendered pattern is sized for a bust/chest 32” – 60”. If your measurements fall outside of this size range, don't hesitate to contact the studio before registering for the class.

Sessions: Two 3-hour sessions,
Instructor, Martha West. This is listed as a semi-private or private option. You and Martha will decide on times and dates. (Semi-private is up to 2 students at $120 each. Private is $240)

An additional $10 is added if you order the class and a machine rental.
