How to Save a Shirt !!

Ever have a favorite shirt that is worn on the collar and/or the stand collar, but the rest of the shirt is in good shape? Maybe you have already thought of this idea, but it came to me recently after John showed me two of his favorite shirts with just this problem. I looked at these for awhile, debating if they were history, when a fix popped into my brain!

First I picked out the stitching attaching the collar to the stand collar. These shirts have to be 15-20 years old, so the seams are very flat and needed no pressing. Then I simply turned the collar around and sewed the reversed collar on to the stand. It was very easy to get the seams lined up on both sides. The buttonhole on the stand posed no issue and this will work if you decide to reverse the stand and the collar.

Here are the finished products! We saved two shirts…Yay!
